The subjects are covering parts of their faces with a photograph of someone else, maybe celebrities? As they are portrayed as beautiful by the media and perhaps this is being shown here as people wanted to be like their idols?

I love the shadows and strong contrast in these photographs, they create a deep emotional sense to the portraits. They are not really cheerful or happy portraits. They show individuals who cover up who they are, perhaps to cover their emotions? Do they feel unworthy or not good enough? These portraits pose so many questions for me which I love and I want to incorporate that reaction into my own work.

I love the high contrast black and white portraits and the plain backgrounds so the viewers focus is completely on the subject of their hidden identities.
