Rodney Ellison remembers patrolling the sidewalk on his Big Wheel as a young boy. For hours he would wheel back and forth across the walk in front of his Sacramento home, not allowing anyone to cross his path. The Chico-born, Sacramento native will soon be serving as the new Yuba-Sutter California Highway Patrol commander, a post held by Shon H arris for the last three years before his retirement.

Ellison, 48, will come to the area with 22 years of service in the CHP as well as a wide breadth of knowledge and training. After graduating from the University of Washington where he attended on a football scholarship and played in several Rose Bowls , Ellison was first stationed in west Los Angeles for three years. And with the passage of Proposition 64 — recreational use of cannabis — he said the CHP continues to educate residents of the dangers of driving under the influence.
