Adenauer advanced further into the political life of Cologne, and in he married Emma Weyer, daughter of a wealthy and prominent family. Her uncle was mayor of Cologne. Konrad and Emma would have three children.

Interested in holding political office, Adenauer won his first public position in on Cologne's city council.
